I intended to scan more family snapshots of the wedding day…but for some reason Uncle John in his leisure suit keeps scanning in green…just green.
So I asked the guy above what he thought…he deals with computer problems every day so he just groaned & at this moment in time is worrying about the national election due to the Brexit vote & the Trump candidacy & is in the middle of cleaning the bathtub.
So I will be satisfied with this picture…and be happy for the fact that we have supported each other this far in our own awkward ways…and will continue to do so for as long as we’ve got.
40 years is really just a number…it’s the day in and day out that matters.
Later we’ll have beer & brats & try to find a good movie to watch on TCM with cats on our laps.
…so…sorting through old family things…to the surface comes a photo taken in 1946.
Grace Lutheran Church…Cleveland Heights, OH…

of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.
I see rows of dear people now gone…in a place where my Dad later Pastored…he too recently gone….the place itself now gone… having been sold by a dwindling congregation who could no longer care for it….and awash in the tide of time which is the human tragedy really…what do I do to help myself through?
Things accumulate in my garden as they do in my house as they do in my life.
So strange things rub shoulders…and abalone shells collected by the husband’s Grandmother in Florida decades ago…that have lived in boxes in basements…and moved from Iowa to Nebraska to Ohio to Georgia…now rest in pots with jasmine and pine needles and are rained upon in the present day.
We restless humans…clinging to things to make meaning of our lives…forever disturbing the natural order of things.
Today is the astronomical midpoint between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice…the tipping point of fall into winter that prompts earthlings in the northern hemisphere to celebrate …Halloween…All Hallow’s Eve…Samhain…All Souls’ Day…All Saints’ Day…the Day of the Dead…to pause in remembrance of those who have gone before them from this our own blue planet whirling round its sun. Happy holy-day.
